Intermediate Classes
Deepen Your Understanding of Yukimura Style Shibari
Once the foundations begin to settle into your hands, rope opens up into something far more dynamic. Our intermediate classes at LA Rope are where structure gives way to nuance, and technique begins to serve intention. Here, we move beyond simply executing ties and start exploring how transitions, timing, and subtle adjustments can transform a scene.
You’ll deepen your understanding of body positioning, develop greater sensitivity to your partner’s responses, and learn how to build emotional texture through rope. These classes are designed for students ready to refine their control, expand their vocabulary, and begin shaping rope not just as something you do, but as something you create. For those interested in deepening their practice, we offer these more specialized topics in our intermediate shibari classes Los Angeles.
What do I Need to Know for Intermediate Classes
Generally speaking, LA Rope has two kinds of classes: classes that focus on skills and technique and those that focus on the more philosophical elements of Yukimura Style Shibari. The two basic skill classes are the Hands in Front and Hands Behind ties classes, which teach the two fundamental building blocks for all later classes. That material is also covered in the first private lesson. The schedule for beginners classes is listed here.
It is highly recommended that students take both before moving to intermediate ties. The more background you have in the other classes, the more rich the experience will be as you move into intermediate classes, but it is perfectly fine to jump in with just the first few classes complete.
What Topics Are Covered?
Our intermediate classes are constantly evolving and cover topics ranging from kotobazeme (word play), Yukimura style predicament ties, Partial suspensions, Japanese style hogties, Open leg shame ties, and more. The focus is on blending more advanced techniques and ties with a deeper understanding of the psychological and emotional elements of Yukimura style rope, as communcation and conversation.
